For the first time, a section of the Nürburgring Nordschleife is getting a digital infrastructure. The Döttinger Höhe will be equipped with cameras, display systems and intelligent software over a length of 2.7 kilometres. The construction measure connects the track, which was opened in 1927, with the modern infrastructure of the Grand Prix circuit and the new Racecontrol. The new technology will already be in use in the upcoming season.
Construction work at the Nürburgring. Not an unusual sight at this time of year on the world's longest permanent racetrack: construction vehicles are regularly on the track in winter - for example when the asphalt is being renewed. But this year, instead of the usual pavers or road rollers, an oversized plough is on the road at the Nürburgring. With its help, the skilled workers there are laying several kilometres of empty pipes into which lines and cables can later be inserted.
"Digital Marshalling" brings flag signals directly into the car
In 2021, the Nürburgring will now test different systems here. Numerous cameras will bring the image directly to the new race control system. New software with artificial intelligence will help to recognise dangers more quickly. In addition, the so-called "digital marshalling" is to be further expanded. With digital display panels, which also show flag signals, the officials can control what is happening on the track. In addition, the signals and important information are shown directly to the driver on the display in the cockpit. An important part of the measure on the Döttinger Höhe is also the test of different possibilities for the power supply of the entire system.
The entire test run should also lead to conclusions as to what requirements the digitalisation of further sections of the Nordschleife would entail. With its length and topography, the most demanding race track in the world brings with it special requirements. There are countless square kilometres of forest, a hilly landscape and a track layout with many curves, steep inclines and declines. The things that have made the Nürburgring so world-famous would make the power supply and data processing and transmission in particular a major task.

great videos! stay safe!
Direct messages to drivers on screen? It was done in late 70's and is named RDS TP/TA. Everybody has this in standard radio... Funny that we are reinventing old things.
No. The track is being dug up in certain places to allow for new gas, water, internet (meter) pipelines to be installed. It’s been happening everywhere since March 2020. Almost every traffic light system in my city has been tended to in the last 12 months. Local lockdowns will occur until the full network has been installed.
the history lesson at the end was pretty cool
1:19 Looks like a nice rally stage
0:30 behind the line i see number 23 and other numbers where is that for Greetings giacomo
3:52 it's not going to use photo recognition it will be GPS based ai
Age old question...is it a race track or a toll road?
cstree.info/block/video/l7FpmMdvmZ2sxJE.html Hi started my own channel hope you like and help support me made some epic nurburing side by side comparison please give me some input.. Thanks guys.
Thumbs up! Keep churning! 😍
Upvote if you want the nerd-berg-ring to build a sick loop with flamethowers and shit
Sehr interessant, danke fürs zeigen!
Just thinking.... this is the perfect opportunity to test 5G wireless systems, I mean, those signals led panels perfectly can be charged by sun panels, and even if is not enough it can be charged by eolic energy (or hybrid). Cars make turbulence that is traduced to wind so that can be captured by eolic systems. There is a lot of new clean energy to charge a led panel wich also is low in comsumption. By the way what kind of wireless technology is used in F1 to stream from car to TV Control on F1 channel?
Nice to see the driver of the digger to be hitting the apex
Misha always has the freshest fade at the Ring gah dayum
I'm an ex-rally driver (only amateur) not a circuit racer, but I've followed tarmac racing for decades. I'm all in favour of safety improvements, but I really do hope that the world's major circuits aren't 'corrected' excessively. Making them all uniformly flawless and smooth would be a great shame. I think it's important that tracks are allowed to retain their individuality. Notorious bumps, dips, ridges, rough patches, and tricky camber changes all add character. Yes, they make driving more difficult, but so what? If you don't like gritty reality, race on a simulator! Having flawed tracks keeps drivers, designers, and manufacturers on their toes, and that's essential if real circuit racing isn't destined to become some tiresome 'super-speedway' procession. I'd be sorry to see electronics replacing human marshals with flags and radios entirely, though. In my experience, motorsport marshals are some of the finest, most dedicated people in the world.
Interesting to see you drive in the opposite direction on the track. Is there any record for a reverse direction lap, or has one ever been done?
The Assetto Corsa reference!...I knew I liked Misha!🇺🇸🦅👍🏻
The best news was an update on MR driver lineup for 2021, thx! Good news!
Nice, innovations are cool. Too bad I will probably never visit the Nurburgring in my car.
Appreciating any forms of investment in infrastructure these days ... with the uncertain condition brought about by the pandemic ... you just need to be thankful that Nurburgring is taking significant risks as no one knows the extent of the covid19 problem .... so we can only do all we can and continue to cooperate with each other to make sure we rebuild better (and stay healthy) ... greetings from Singapore/Malaysia
i hope there is nobody actually planning to put cables around the track in times of 5G availability. you can instead invest in 5G infrastructure and dont put any cables
He's surely more open up this time, I guess he was just camera shy last time.
I understand why they’ve done it on a small part of the track and that’s 100% normal (2+km is actually quite long IMO), what I don’t understand is why they did it there and not in a more dangerous/twisty part of the track to truly test it. I know there was a big crash in 2019(?) on the straight during the n24 but that’s not really common I think
Great video, thanks for the update👍 I live just down the road in Remagen, so I’ll be coming down this year for sure🤩
In the N24H 2021 we had a small screen that indicated yellow flag/Code 60 situations in the cars. Initially I thought it was a great idea but I really disliked it in the night as when it turned on you lost concentration. Maybe I'll like it better after using it more...
Cool.
Good to get the track up to speed the cars sure are.. digital track upgrade awesome
4:30 this excavator's positioning makes me uncomfortable... not much things makes me uncomfortable, but this one does...
Thank you so much for your videos!!
Thanks for the updates. This place is always busy, even when closed!
Why don't LMP cars race on this track ??
Safety, not flat.
The inner 90’s “Hack The Plant” child: ...its 2021, the longest most storied track in the world, in a tech savvy country is not digitized...there is nothing to hack, it is a waste of time, even pretending to know how!!! Go get some sunshine kids, do dumb stuff with pointy sticks... that thing attached to the keyboard is just an interactive money draining marketing device, not even as cool as getting a color tv with remote, any more!! Sigh! ....oh wait, they are burying fiberoptic, like way back when in the 90’s??! woohoo!!! GOOD STUFF Misha!!! Imagine the possibilities !!!
If a car does 7:45 in nurburgring how much would it be in the oposite direction??
Laurens Vanthoor is wishing this was done prior to 2019 Nurburgring 24hr.
The ring is so exciting that the facial software would constantly think ppl are crashing because of their facial expression😂😂
Would be cool for it to be an app, if its not already, so any ordinary driver can download and see true timed warnings, cars on track etc.
F1: my drivers dont have balls sorry (I understand the risks, this is just a joke)
That bonus was nice!
You already have warnings and traffic alerts that pop up on your navigation even if you’re not using it or listening to the radio in German cars I don’t know about American .. hahahah
like the phantom in your face mask! is that the Koeninseg one? reminds me of an old 60''s cartoon.
@Misha Charoudin where did you get it? I want one
Correct
Thank you sir 🙂
well well done! total german quality Misha! Bravo for the authorities there!
Damm i think is mist a few vids
Ah yeah! It's great to see the yearly construction video! It's the third one I see, and I found you through the one iiiiin 2019? So here for 2 years already! Looking forward to the next one already! :D
Great video. It’s a pleasure to watch ur content in 2160p by the way. Can’t understand how the likes of shmees content is still 1080 this is amazing. 💛
Very good Content Misha 👌
Thanks for the Tier 1 quality update Misha! Outstanding as always! Were You aware it was Pancake day Yesterday?
Need a better mask that fits.
Unfortunately, I have plenty. I'd rather have none.
What's the lap record of a Kubota KX042-4 ? :D I bet slower than a tuk-tuk :D
Flexing with the Koenigsegg mask
Hey Misha, Great vlog share. Cool stuff happening at Nürburgring. I do have a quick odd question, have they ever or is there an annual driving event where the track is driven in the reverse direction? That would be interesting for drivers and passengers alike. (Would make a very cool video as well) Thanks a s always...
Rallye Köln-Ahrweiler
Weirdest bridge to gantry video the wrong way round 🤗
Hi Misha.. (10:30am NZ) watchin this Vlog during smoko/coffee break @work. Interesting work being done on the Nurburgring. Bringing it into the Digital age hey?..Nice ! 🙂 I rewatched that Porsche Lap afew times lastnite.. Woohoo.. he's goin 4 it! 👍😎👍 Righto coffee break done, back 2work. As always LOVE Ya Work dude💕 Godbless, ava gday🙂

Let the spirits of old Marshall past rest. Knockin and tapping on their doors after all those years. Pff
4:23 Wow a kubota digger, great vlog camrad
The fact that you can still find things from the past like the old marshall post makes you appreciate the ring even more Foodshot 0/10
Awesome vid.... Very interesting again... Keep up the random vids👍👍👍👍
Finally i must confess your brought me through the most of the winter with all your contents ... thx
Thank you!
👷🏼♂️👍🏻🥨
So did you go back to Russia to get your fresh hair cut?
No why? Just because the barber shops are closed, it does not mean that you are not allowed to get a hair cut. I could even do it myself worst case.
Does it mean that some marshals will lose their jobs as Cameras and digital devices take over
@Misha Charoudin yes but the advancing tech less and less will be needed.Oc some will continue to be stationed around the track but I see in the future a possible cut of Nürburgring and other tracks staff.
No. A camera isn't going to extinguish a burning car and help drivers.
Hopefully this wont happen
Well... that’s the future anyway
They could create an app that works with GPS so you can get the flag and track info during TF in every car in addition to digital signs alongside the track. It shouldn't be too hard to create, it's just not 100% reliable since you can't control the quality/GPS accuracy of the device the driver is using so drivers would still need to pay attention to the track signs and marshalls. But still, it would be a nice addition if you got an audible and visual warning from your phone in the car if you would come up to a hazard.
isn't essayer just to connect thought wi-fi or satellite, isn't most costly cheaper and faster?
Too many disruptions
the most introverted taxi driver in the world? did i missed something here?
Last week's video there were many comments about him being quiet
It would be cool if they had track days where the circuit is run in reverse.
THey do once a year :)
that Koenigsegg mask!!! awesome
As always great video! BTW Very nice Koenigsegg ghost mask, Is it possible to buy one like that
RIMAC ON NURBURGRINGGGGGG
Ebani video na russkom po bratski
@Misha Charoudin ochen interesno bro! Milikanskiy mne ychit slojnee chem tebe mne po russki privet peredat)
Zavtra nemnogo budet
Let's dick some holes 🕳 🙃 Love the Koenig Specials green machine for cables! Great news, thanks! Hope this project don't replace people, people need jobs 🙏
You should help them, you know because ring-tractor
Nice piece of information and entertainment Misha . . i geek out on these. The little bonus at the end sparked my imagination. would it be possible to make a video about the old layouts of the Nordschleife (including the Sudschleife, Steilstrecke, etc) and the hidden historic treasures of the ring.
Lots of this kind of content already on Misha's channel (can be found if you trace back up to 4 years or so 😆)
Good update even if for the moment it's just a test. I always thought that the F1 world, a world with so much money, could and shoud have done something like this many years ago already.
F1 has nothing to do with the Ring tho :)
Even a man digging a hole is cool when it's here 😀
Why not be intrinsically linked to the track....I would love to be, and I'm all the way over here
What kind of lap time do we expect from the cable digger?
Might beat the tuk-tuk
Ufff
DTM is changing to a GT3 car regulation! Would be nice to see DTM back on the Nordschleife since GT3 cars are allowed to race on the NOS! Should be called DGTM now...🙈
I was already wondering why you had a mask with the ghost squadron emblem on it, just found out that Koenigsegg adopted it, haha...! ;)
Sounds like a very good idea would be a fun project to be a pert of. Someone already said about an app on a cell phone and a dash mount so it would be an immeadate warning to everyone. Without having to modify the car at all. Any e.t.a. for this system to be up and running or I'm guessing its still in r&d due to the complicated nature of the beast.
Hey Misha, why didn't they install the testing system in an area like CStree corner, where there are frequent accidents? Seems like that would be a more ideal area to gather more data.
@Misha Charoudin I thought it might be something to do with that, but was curious. Thanks!
Because then you need to lay the cable ALL THE WAY to Brünnchen. Now you have the connections next to the GP track immediately and only laying the cable in a straight line :)
Any chance we can order a couple ghost squadron masks through apex? Not saying you should partner up with Koenigsegg, but I wouldn't mind =D
I doubt it 😬
Interested to see how this digitalization will work out in the future. It seems promising. I find it pretty cool that you are able to film such things with the Nurburgring.
So i guess that means no spectating... Thanks for the info anyways
@Misha Charoudin I thought it was implied when you said that it would be like the lockdown last year, when spectating at the TF was forbiden. But Maybe i just misunderstood.
What makes you think so?
Until you can have Pancakes again, why dont you go to LIDL and buy Chocolate Crossaints and Serrano Schinken like in the old days?
Diet
gud video mate as always
Everything that will make it safer to drive fast is appreciated.
Bro, I had an exam about digitalization yesterday and I fucked it. I cannot even watch this smh
Sooo much variety of content I'm loving it🤙
is there any chance that nürburing will get new asphalt?
@Misha Charoudin Happy to hear! Ty for the answ. :)
Parts get resurfaced every year
Good evening Misha! Hope you good.
Bonus content was cool Misha.👌🏻 Great vid as always!🤟🏻
Bmw isetta Best bmw ever made 😂
It would be cool if after its implemented, they made a sort of app where you can get flags and warnings on your phone mounted on your car for the tourist layout.
You cannot rely on an app on a random phone with random performance, battery level, possibility of the app itself crashing, freezing, etc.
@Css Timejumper what the guy is saying, an app linkeded to the zones so you're not only dependent on people using the app ;-)
Track Secure is something like That what do you mean :)
Systems (apps) like this already exist, but a bespoke variant for the Nurburgring via, for example, a Nurburgring 'drivers' app, would be a great way to digitize signs in-vehicle!
The tarmac does look rough when you see it up close.
Love the way pancakes get a mention 😂😂.. It was Pancake Tuesday in the UK yesterday, living the dream 😂😂..
In Sweden we had Fettisdagen, we have ”Semla” instead of pancakes
Just to clarify, it’s Shrove Tuesday, a tradition that we have once a year not a weekly thing.
@Randy you beat me to it in the states it’s taco Tuesday
Texas fan here.....Tuesdays are for Tacos.....Taco Tuesday!
Evening Misha interesting to see the ring updates
